What is Craniosacral Therapy?

Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy is a restorative non-invasive form of bodywork that has proven to be beneficial for a whole range of health conditions from minor aches and pains to severe and persistent ailments. The work is also excellent for anyone who has trauma, depression, anxiety or insomnia. Many clients receive regular Craniosacral sessions just for the deep relaxation and stress relief that it brings.

The Craniosacral system consists of the bones of the head, spine and sacrum, as well as the membranes and cerebral spinal fluid which protect and nourish the brain and central nervous system. Like the workings of a fine watch, each part of this system is articulated with the other. When one part is stuck or out of balance, it affects the motion of the whole.

The Craniosacral system has much information to share with us. Using gentle touch the practitioner can begin to detect  places of imbalance and inertia that affect the natural  craniosacral rhythm and the deeper expressions of our life force, William Garner Sutherland, recognized as the father of Craniosacral  work, called this essential life force ” The Breath of Life”

The Breath of Life, this spark of energy/information within our cerebral spinal fluids, brings us into form as embryos and carries us into life. This innate yet universal wisdom is the basis, the blueprint, for our health and wellbeing.

Whenever our healing resources are overwhelmed by injury, shock or any kind of abuse, stress remains in the body /mind . Trauma patterns are formed and if these held places are  not addressed they can begin to severely compromise our ability to heal.

Craniosacral is a very effective way to get the essential energy flowing again and bring the system back to  balance and homeostasis.

Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy treats the whole person, holding and honoring both the conditional or symptomatic, and the ever present health in the body, mind and spirit. During a Craniosacral session, client and practitioner work together to observe and track the rhythms and subtle motions of the body and what is being expressed, whatever it may be. This provides the client’s body with a unique opportunity to tell its story with more clarity, from a deeper more essential space.

As the Breath of Life is encouraged to awaken, mobility of structure is improved, healing is accelerated, stress and its negative effects begin to discharge and clients feel a tremendous sense of  calm and peace of mind.
